Hi - has anyone had any success with GoDaddy and the URL rewriter? Everytime I upload the web.config file (downloaded from the web wiz downlaods section) I get an internal server error '500" - pretty disasterous eh? Any help appreciated.

That because Web Wiz Forums doesn't run on GoDaddy servers.
They are listed on the page below:- http://www.webwizguide.com/webwizforums/kb/non_supported_webhosts.asp Also they do not have the IIS 7 Rewrite Module installed on their IIS 7 servers, hence the 500 error you get. if you do a search online allot of people are finding that GoDaddy have not installed this module (which does not come with IIS 7 as standard) on their Windows 2008 IIS 7 servers. You may want to look at our own Hosting Packages which are on Windows 2008 R2 IIS7.5 and do have the IIS 7 Rewrite Module installed as well as ISAPI_Rewrite. On production websites we find that the IIS 7 rewrite Module can course the application pool to recycle when under load coursing session issue, so I would recommend using ISAPI_Rewrite instead as it more features and is more reliable. Our Windows 2008 R2 IIS7.5 Hosting packages can be found on the page below:- http://www.webwizguide.com/webhosting/ |

Sorry - but your information is not correct. I am currently running on a GoDaddy shared hosting account that has IIS7. It works fine with all functions up and working. The ONLY exception is that I cannot get the URL Rewriting to work - but I will solve this one too.
Just one question for you then - your hosting package - can I run PHP too? And as a last favour - can anyone send me an example web.config file compatible with IIS7?? Edited by snadowitz - 08 November 2009 at 2:02am |

I beg to differ. GoDaddy do NOT have the IIS 7 Rewrite Mod installed on their servers. Do a quick search online and you will find lots of GoDaddy users who have been told misleading information from GoDaddty support only to find that GoDaddy do not have the IIS 7 Rewrite Mod installed on their servers.
You will alos find other issues such as the check for updates feature not working and if you run the compatibility server checking tool from the admin area you will also find that you won't be able to connect to our liecsne server to run the Premium Edition. You will find that other features will work, but from our past experience there are lots of issues with GoDaddy. We are not just making this up because we feel like it, this is from years of experience from developing and supporting the software. In regards to your question about our hosting services, yes it does support PHP as well as ASP, ASP.NET 1.1/2.0/3.5. There is also ASP.NET Charting Controls and the IIS 7 Rewrite Mod. You also get SQL server 2008 and mySQL and unlike many other web hosts we also fully backup all our servers each night. |

seems u r right about the URL Rewriter part - but I just tried the check for updates thing and it works a treat. The check compatibility thing - I cannot even find it in the version of WebWiz I installed.

Maybe GoDdady then have finally fixed the issues that have plagued their Windows 2003 hosting for years and finally got it together with their Windows 2008 IIS 7 packages. Would be good if they have.
The server check is in the admin area under Setup and Configuration you then scroll to near the bottom of the page where you will find Server Requirements Test. Would be interesting to know the result. |

yes they seemd to have done so - I bugged them for a few days and they also fixed the URL Rewrit Module too...this now makes GoDaddy a viable option - yeah??
Tok a LOT of bugging them to escalate the URL Rewrite issue and fix it though. Just to be clear - I am using GoDaddy Economy Windows Hosting on IIS7 Results from a fresh install on a test account I use are below.

Looks like they may have sorted the issues with their Windows 2008 IIS 7 hosting. They did have someone contact us a couple of years ago regarding the issues with their servers running Web Wiz Forums, so it's about time they fixed the problems. Will update the compatibility page to reflect this.
Just hope now 1&1 do the same, although i don't hold my breath with them. |
